Galvanized pipes have a lifespan of 25-50 years. They are made of steel and dipped in a zinc coating that is meant to prevent rust and corrosion but over time can break.
Lead pipes are sometimes found in homes built before 1950 and, as we know, lead contamination can cause major health conditions such as kidney damage, headaches, and high blood pressure among others.
Poly-B pipes were deemed unacceptable for use as of 2005 and can be found in homes built from 1978-1995. Poly-B or Polybutylene piping can be described as flexible and light grey. Over time it was discovered that Poly-B could become brittle and crack especially if the water supply contained a high chlorine level.
We can replace your piping with copper, PEX or CPVC piping.
