Flat Roof Drains

Roof drains aren’t something the average person thinks about, but they are very important when keeping your building and contents dry. The roof is either sloped to exterior downspouts or roof drains funnel the rainwater into rainwater leaders that run to a storm sewer. Regular roof drain maintenance can prevent blockages that cause pooling water, which often can add to the weight on the roof, and cause damage to the pipes or roof itself.

To prevent freezing and blockages in cold weather, vulnerable rainwater leaders should be strapped with heat tape and insulated to prevent icing up. If RWL’s do freeze up, the best-case scenario is the water backing up on the roof – worst case is compromising the leaders themselves and flooding water into the building.
