Plumbtech Plumbing is a proud supporter of Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka – which offers important support to those with living with cancer and the people around them.

#1 Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka offers free Membership

Gilda’s is a place to go where you can talk about how you are feeling about your cancer diagnosis, or the cancer diagnosis of a family member or friend. The staff and volunteers at Gilda’s Club are there to offer you social and emotional, evidence-based cancer support. Their free, no-referral needed Membership offers you program activities that include support groups, counseling, workshops, and more.

#2 Gilda’s Club provides counseling services for Teens and Children

Gilda’s Club provides specialized services for children who are going through cancer treatment, have a loved one living with cancer, or have had a loved one die from cancer. They have individual sessions, support groups, workshops, camps and field trips for children during school breaks. You can learn more about services for children and teens here.

#3 Gilda’s Club provides support groups run by registered mental health care professionals

The mandate of Gilda’s Club is to ensure that no one faces cancer alone. Support Groups and counselling sessions are provided by registered mental health professionals with a Master’s degree or higher; their unique method of combining peer support with the support of specialized professionals ensures their Members receive the highest quality of care.

Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka’s current support groups are: Newly Diagnosed Cancer Support, Family & Friends Support, Circle of Life Support (for those with a late-stage or terminal cancer diagnosis), Living With Loss Support (for those who have had a family member or friend die from cancer), and monthly Networking Groups for those with breast cancer, and blood cancers. You can find more details about their Support Groups and other services here.

#4 You can support Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka

There are many ways to support Gilda’s Club. You can make a one-time donation or donate monthly with “Gilda’s Givers” a giving club that directly funds their counseling and support programs. You can also purchase a brick in “Gilda’s Courtyard of Hope Campaign” that will be placed in the courtyard or you can donate items (when Covid-19 protocols allow).

An easy way to help is with a small fundraiser – Facebook Birthday celebration in lieu of gifts, or a garage or bake sale. Discover how BIG an impact that your small fundraiser can have. You can also offer your time by volunteering.

#5 The Cancer Tsunami

A Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka member shared the following comment:

“It broke my heart to read the Oct. 24 Toronto Star article “Ontario shut down non-urgent health services in the spring. Now hospitals are seeing many more patients with advanced cancers” and know that this pandemic is hurting the cancer community more than people can understand. The full impact of 2020 shutdowns are only starting to be realized – 2021 is going to be tough for anyone impacted by cancer.”

Canadian Cancer Society statistics indicate that 1 out of 2 Canadians will experience a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. It is expected that just over 3,200 people in Simcoe-Muskoka alone will receive a cancer diagnosed this year, and unfortunately more will learn of their diagnosis in advanced stages because of COVID-19.

We hope we have given you a better understanding of Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka and all that they provide our community. For more information on their programs, how to donate or how to apply to become a volunteer go to the Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka.
