Don’t get caught with split pipes leaking in your basement this fall. A few simple steps now will prevent this watery disaster later.
For Standard and Frost-Free outside hose taps:
- Remove garden hose from tap
- Shut off inside valve for outside tap. The shut off valve is likely located just inside wall in basement ceiling where the pipe goes through the wall to the outside to connect with the hosetap
- Open outside tap and drain the water that remains in the line
- Loosen the side port drain cap on the inside valve (step 2 above) and drain the line from the inside. Re-tighten the drain cap.
